NAVI MUMBAI: The Panvel exit (1.2 km) on the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway will remain fully closed for six months beginning February 11 due to construction work at Kalamboli Circle. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is building a new flyover and underpass as part of the Kalamboli Junction improvement project.

Traffic Diversions and Alternate Routes

The Navi Mumbai Traffic Police announced that the closure would affect all light and heavy vehicles heading toward Panvel, Mumbra, and JNPT. The restriction will be enforced round the clock to ensure smooth construction progress and reduce congestion. Alternative routes have been provided to manage traffic:

  • Vehicles traveling to Panvel, Goa, and JNPT from the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be diverted at Konphata (9.6 km) onto NH-48 via Palaspe Circle.
  • Commuters coming from Pune toward Mumbai and heading to Taloja, Kalyan, or Shilphata must continue straight from 1.2 km onto the Panvel-Sion Highway, take a right turn under the Purusharth Petrol Pump flyover, and follow the route via Roadpali and NH-48.

Official Statement and Anticipated Impact

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Navi Mumbai, Tirupati Kakade, issued the closure order under the Motor Vehicles Act. He assured commuters that the Kalamboli Junction project would significantly ease traffic congestion once completed.

Although the closure is expected to cause temporary inconvenience, authorities emphasized the long-term benefits of improved traffic flow and connectivity in the area. Motorists are advised to adhere to the diversion routes and plan their journeys accordingly.
