Passenger Raises Concerns Over Inaccurate Weighing Scales at Chandigarh Airport
A passenger traveling from Chandigarh to Delhi with IndiGo recently had an unusual experience while checking in his luggage at Chandigarh Airport. He noticed that the scales at two different counters gave different readings for the same bag, making him question the accuracy of the equipment. The passenger felt that his bag was lighter than the weight shown on the first scale. When he raised the issue with an IndiGo staff member, she suggested he try weighing his bag on another scale. However, the second scale also showed a different weight, which increased his doubts.
The passenger shared a video of the incident on social media, where it quickly gained attention. He posted, “Same bag, two counters, two different weights, 2.3 kg difference” and expressed concerns about the reliability of the weighing machines. He hoped it was just a technical glitch but worried that such issues could undermine people’s trust in the system.
The video led to other travelers sharing similar experiences. One user commented, “This has happened to me and my husband almost three times in the last five years.” Another said, “Airports are definitely scamming us!” A third shared, “I traveled through four airports with the same luggage, and on my way back, the weight increased by 12 kg. I didn’t add anything to my bags. It felt like harassment.”
IndiGo responded to the video, assuring the passenger that the weighing machines are regularly calibrated and certified by the airport operator. They added that they have shared the feedback with the relevant team.
