A 19-year-old student from Pune got detained by the Mumbai Crime Branch on February 23. He allegedly threatened Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his son, MP Shrikant Shinde, on a social networking platform called X. The student, named Subham Warkad, hails from Nanded and is studying Bachelor of Computer Applications in Pune. He’s in his first year, and authorities are trying to understand why he made such threats.

According to the police, a person named Abhay posted on X on February 11, saying he wanted to create trouble and asking for guidance. In response, Warkad replied, saying he would bring a gun, but Abhay needed to first kill Eknath and Shrikant.

The Mumbai police took swift action after seeing the posts on X, forwarding them to the cyber police to track down those discussing harming the Chief Minister and his son. The crime branch and anti-terrorism unit traced Warkad through his IP address, Gmail ID, mobile number, and location. They then arrested him in Pune.

During interrogation, Warkad admitted to posting the threatening message on X. On February 23, he was brought to Santacruz Police Station and charged under sections 505 (public mischief) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

The case has been handed over to Crime Branch Unit 9 for further investigation. Warkad is scheduled to appear in court on February 24.
