At Paranjape Vidyamandir School in Kothrud, the “Cycle Bus” initiative was launched on Thursday in a ground-breaking move.

As per further information from a social media post Harshad Deshpande from Save Pune Traffic Movement “India’s first ‘Cycle Bus’ launched at Paranjape Vidyamandir, Kothrud! A ‘Cycle Bus’ works like a school bus, but on bicycles. You ‘get on the bus’ by joining a group of cyclists riding together. Children ride together to/from the school, rather than each one riding on their own. This makes the group more easily visible to drivers of other vehicles, which improves the safety of the cyclists. A collaborative effort by Save Pune Traffic Movement and Parisar, enthusiastically supported by the school.”

With the enthusiastic support of the school, Save Pune Traffic Movement and Parisar have collaborated to introduce the novel idea of a “Cycle Bus,” which aims to improve the safety and visibility of student cyclists navigating Pune’s roads.

The ‘Cycle Bus,’ which operates similarly to a regular school bus, allows students to travel to and from school as a group instead of individually. By working together, we can make ourselves more visible to other drivers, which increases bike safety.

Approximately sixteen students from the school boarded the first two Cycle Buses during the inaugural run, which was the first time such a concept had been applied in India.

According to a Parisar associate, the Cycle Bus program not only makes riding to school safer for kids but also motivates parents of younger kids to let them ride alone since older, more experienced students will be riding with them.
