Pune Forest Dept Forms Urban Joint Forest Management Committee for Taljai Hills ; announces various development works
The Pune Forest Department has declared that the Urban Joint Forest Management Committee (UJFMC) will be formed for Taljai Tekdi along with several development works planned on the Tekdi.
As per further information from the letter of Forest Department accessed by Pune Pulse, In the above-mentioned case, plantation and other ancillary works are being done at Pachgaon, Parvati Forest Survey No 1 in this forest area and it has been decided to establish an Urban Joint Forest Management Committee for carrying out various development works and protection works and other ancillary works at the said place.
Also, the work of uprooting the Gliricidia species and planting tall plants of the new indigenous species is going on as per the approved work plan and these works will be done with the joint coordination of the committee and the forest department after the establishment of the Urban Joint Forest Management Committee. Also, till the establishment of Urban Joint Forest Management Committee, Gliricidia tree eradication and other development works will not be done.
On Wednesday, March 13, a heated meeting between representatives of the forest department and the public ended on a positive note. The residents expressed their support for the establishment of a joint forest management committee for the Taljai Hill forest area, even as the forest officials consented to test samples taken from chopped trees.
The Pune Forest Department hosted a meeting at Van Bhavan in the Gokhalenagar neighborhood on Senapati Bapat Road, and the meeting was attended by city residents. Attending the meeting were NR Praveen, Pune’s chief conservator of forests; Mahadev Mohite, Pune’s deputy conservator of forests; Satyajit Gujar, a former forest officer; and Ramesh Wankhede, a former DCF (wildlife).
