Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale hospitalized with Dengue-like symptoms
Preliminary test results negative, city steps up mosquito control efforts
Dengue cases are on the rise in Pune amid the recent rain spells. Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale has reportedly shown dengue-like symptoms.
His residence, located in Model Colony, was inspected by the municipality’s health department. Despite the large area of the bungalow, measures were taken to ensure mosquito breeding sites were treated with appropriate medication.
Dr Bhosale has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment. Preliminary test results have come back negative for dengue. However, the situation is being closely monitored.
Every year, Pune experiences a significant dengue outbreak during the monsoon season. This year is no exception. The number of dengue patients is steadily increasing. In response, the municipal administration has intensified efforts to control the spread by spraying mosquito repellent and imposing fines on societies and establishments where dengue larvae are found.
In addition to dengue, Pune is also dealing with the Zika virus. The city has recorded over 28 cases, contributing to the state’s total of 32. The majority of the patients are adults, with a notable risk posed to pregnant women. Children, however, are reportedly not at significant risk.
The health department has appealed to the public to maintain cleanliness to prevent further outbreaks.
