Rain Alert for Pune: Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Expected Today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Pune and other regions in Maharashtra, forecasting rain with lightning today (16th October).

Moderate to heavy rains, accompanied by thunderstorms, are expected in several districts across Konkan and Central Maharashtra. The alert covers areas including Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg in the Konkan region and Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, Nashik and Ahmednagar in Central Maharashtra. Citizens have been advised to stay cautious, especially when outdoors, due to potential lightning strikes.

The resurgence of rain-friendly weather is due to the convergence of retreating southwest monsoon winds and the onset of northeast monsoon conditions. The IMD has predicted that this weather pattern will result in scattered rain and thundershowers over the next five days in these regions.

Marathwada Sees Scattered Showers

While the yellow alert primarily affects Konkan and Central Maharashtra, isolated regions in Marathwada may also experience light rainfall. The weather department has noted that these showers will not be widespread or heavy but farmers are urged to protect their crops and make preparations accordingly.

Temperature Trends Amidst Rain Alert

Despite the forecast of rain, several areas in Maharashtra continue to experience high temperatures. Brahmapuri recorded a temperature of 36.7°C, while Akola and Chandrapur reported 35.5°C and 35°C, respectively. Residents are encouraged to take necessary precautions to cope with both the heat and potential rainstorms.

With the northeast monsoon gaining momentum, Maharashtra can expect increased rainfall activity over the coming days, especially in Konkan, Central Maharashtra and parts of Marathwada.
