Rani Kamalapati Railway Station: Blending Heritage with Modernity
In a landmark move to modernize India’s railway infrastructure, Rani Kamalapati Railway Station in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has emerged as the nation’s first world-class railway station. Built under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the station draws inspiration from Germany’s Heidelberg station and is designed to deliver an airport-like travel experience.
A Royal Tribute
The station, formerly known as Habibganj, was renamed in November 2021 to honor Rani Kamalapati—the courageous 18th-century Gond queen, famed for her beauty and leadership. Daughter of Chaudhari Kirpa Ramchandra and the seventh wife of King Nizam Shah, her legacy lives on through landmarks like the Kamalapati Palace, now a protected monument.
Smart, Secure & Stylish
Passenger safety is a top priority with nearly 160 CCTV cameras installed across the premises. The station features elevators, escalators, and clearly marked digital signboards in multiple languages, ensuring that all passengers—including those with disabilities—can move around easily and safely.
Comfort Beyond Compare
To make waiting more pleasant, the station offers climate-controlled lounges with seating capacity for 700 to 1,100 passengers. These free seating areas are complemented by air-conditioned waiting zones, helping travelers unwind before their journey.
India’s Railway Backbone
Indian Railways is one of the largest rail networks in the world, operating over 13,000 trains daily across 7,300+ stations. Among this vast system, Rani Kamalapati station serves as a key node in the West Central Railway Zone and as the headquarters of the Bhopal railway division.
Multi-Modal Hub with Retail Vibes
Designed to support seamless transportation, the station includes a large, covered parking area and offers smooth integration with other transit systems. The premises also house a vibrant retail and dining space, complete with shops, restaurants, and food courts catering to diverse tastes.

Heritage, Tourism & Hospitality

Inclusive Design at Its Core
Built with sustainability and inclusivity in mind, the station is fully accessible to differently-abled passengers. High-speed elevators, ramps, and thoughtful infrastructure ensure ease of access for all.
