Reflecting on his past experience of flying a pet for joint replacement, which led him to witness the capabilities of a world-class veterinary hospital, Tata expressed the necessity for such facilities.
Built at a cost of Rs 165 crore, the five-story Tata Trusts Small Animal Hospital boasts the capacity to accommodate 200 patients and will be under the leadership of British veterinarian Thomas Heathcote, who relocated to Mumbai for this significant role. Originally intended for Navi Mumbai, Ratan Tata reconsidered the hospital’s location due to concerns about the long commute, believing it could deter pet parents, particularly in emergencies. Delays ensued, aggravated by the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Tata acknowledged the impact of the pandemic on construction timelines and financial considerations but expressed resilience in overcoming obstacles to bring this transformative veterinary facility to fruition.
