Ravindra Jadeja's Press Conference Sparks Controversy Ahead of Boxing Day Test

Ravindra Jadeja held a press conference on Saturday ahead of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, but the session stirred controversy involving the Australian media.

The ongoing Test series between India and Australia has already seen its share of off-field drama, beginning with Virat Kohli’s request to a reporter not to photograph his family at the airport. Now, tensions have risen again after Jadeja spoke only in Hindi during the press conference, frustrating Australian journalists. Adding to their annoyance, Jadeja left the session early.

Reports claimed that India’s media team had stated the conference was intended for traveling Indian journalists, despite Australian media being present. This led to accusations of hypocrisy from Australian reporters, which many social media users dismissed as overreaction.

Two journalists covering the series, Abhishek Tripathi (Dainik Jagran) and Subhayan Chakraborty (RevSportz), defended Jadeja, explaining that he couldn’t address all questions due to limited time.

The situation escalated when an Australian journalist, upset that Jadeja didn’t answer in English, expressed anger as the cricketer left to resume practice. India’s media manager clarified that the press conference was mainly for Indian media, but the journalist confronted the manager, intensifying the tension.

Such disputes between Indian players and the Australian media are not new. The Australian press has often been accused of creating narratives that scrutinize Indian cricketers, seemingly to support their home team.
