Scan, Pay, Earn: Now Use RuPay Credit Cards with UPI Apps
UPI has always been a go-to for simple, instant payments from bank accounts. But now, it’s getting even better. You can now link your RuPay credit card to UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and BHIM—giving you the flexibility of credit with the convenience of UPI.
Why This Feature Is a Game-Changer
This new integration opens up exciting benefits:
- Earn reward points on everyday purchases
- Continue enjoying the interest-free period (if bills are paid on time)
- Daily spending limit is ₹1 lakh; in sectors like education and healthcare, it can go up to ₹2 lakh
Where You Can Use It
Once your card is linked, you can use it to scan UPI QR codes at merchant outlets and pay through your credit limit—just like a regular UPI payment, but from your card instead of your bank balance.
🔹 Note: This works for merchant transactions only. You cannot transfer money to individuals using this method.
Also, not every shop accepts credit on UPI yet. Look out for signs that say “Credit on UPI accepted” before making a purchase.
Currently Available for RuPay Credit Cards Only
As of now, this feature is limited to RuPay credit cards issued by major banks like SBI, HDFC, Axis Bank, PNB, Union Bank, and more. Visa, Mastercard, and Amex cards are not yet supported, but may be included in the future.
How to Link Your RuPay Credit Card to UPI
It’s quick and easy:
- Open your UPI app.
- Go to the “Link Bank Account” section.
- Choose the bank that issued your RuPay credit card.
- Enter your card details and complete OTP verification.
- Once done, your credit card will show up as a payment method.
What About RuPay Debit Cards?
RuPay debit cards are still used as a way to connect your bank account to UPI. However, unlike credit cards, they do not work as separate payment options within the app.
Things to Keep in Mind
This feature adds ease and flexibility—but it’s still credit.
- If you miss payments, you could face interest charges and late fees.
- Since merchant adoption is still rolling out, credit via UPI might not be accepted everywhere.
Final Word
This update is a significant leap for digital payments in India. If you have a RuPay credit card and regularly use UPI, this new feature is worth trying out—just be sure to use your credit wisely.
