State Gets 540 Crore Under PM-USHA Scheme For Development Of Educational Institutes
Under the Pradhan Mantri Uchtar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA), Maharashtra has been granted a total of INR 540 crore to invest in the academic and infrastructure development of higher education institutions (HEIs).
Eleven state institutions will share the monies going to the state; four have already received INR 100 crore apiece, and the remaining seven will receive INR 20 crore each. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will digitally present the programme.
Gondwana University, Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU), SNDT Women’s University, and Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University are the state universities that would each receive INR 100 crore. The seven universities that will receive the INR 20 crore each are Shivaji University Kolhapur, Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Mumbai University, Homi Bhabha State University, Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University – Jalgaon, Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University – Nanded, and Sant Gadgebaba Amravati University.
The Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) was a centrally-sponsored programme that provided funding for institutions in States and Unions. The program’s first phase was introduced in 2013, and its second phase was introduced in 2018. Currently, the RUSA programme has been renamed as Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) in accordance with the National Education Policy.
