Mumbai, April 29:
In a strong show of support for the families affected by the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, the Maharashtra state cabinet, under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has announced a compensation package of ₹50 lakh for each of the six families from Maharashtra who lost their loved ones. In addition to financial aid, the government has assured that one member from each affected family will be given a government job.

The cabinet meeting also served as a platform to pay heartfelt tributes to the 26 people who lost their lives in the attack. Six of the deceased hailed from Maharashtra—three from Dombivli, two from Pune, and one from Panvel. The victims have been identified as:

  • Atul Mone – Dombivli
  • Sanjay Lele – Dombivli
  • Hemant Joshi – Dombivli
  • Kaustubh Ganbote – Pune
  • Santosh Jagdale – Pune
  • Dilip Desale – Panvel

Among the beneficiaries is Asawari Jagdale, daughter of the late Santosh Jagdale from Pune. Asawari, who holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science, an MBA, and a Diploma in Labour Law, had earlier received an employment offer from the D. Y. Patil Institute in Pune. Following the new cabinet decision, her appointment has now been upgraded to a government post. This move was executed through the use of Deputy CM Fadnavis’s special discretionary powers.

The Jagdale family expressed mixed emotions, stating, “While no support can truly make up for the loss we’ve suffered, the assurance of a stable government job for our daughter provides us with some comfort and hope for the future.”

Deputy CM Fadnavis emphasized that the state government’s responsibility does not end with financial compensation. “We are committed to the long-term rehabilitation of these families, especially in the areas of education and employment,” he said.

The announcement has been welcomed widely, with many lauding the government’s prompt action and compassionate approach toward the victims’ families.
