Structured Summer Break: Maharashtra Schools Set June 16 Start
MUMBAI: Maharashtra’s School Education Department has announced that the new academic year for students will begin on June 16. While the official summer vacation starts on May 2, this year’s break will be more structured, with learning activities continuing throughout the holiday period.
Students from primary to higher secondary levels, under the Maharashtra State Board, will have their vacation from May 2 to June 15. However, the break won’t be completely free of academics. Schools have been instructed to engage students via the “NIPUN Maharashtra” app, which works both online and offline. Parents are required to register their mobile numbers on the app to enable their children’s participation in these educational sessions.
In regions like Vidarbha, where summer temperatures can be extreme, schools will follow a morning schedule from June 23 to June 28, operating between 7:00 AM and 11:45 AM, to safeguard students’ health. Regular school hours will commence from June 30.
The updated academic calendar is designed to unify the school schedule statewide. Sharad Gosavi, Director of Primary Education, and Dr. Shriram Panzade, Director of Secondary Education, issued the guidelines, which have been shared with divisional education officers and inspectors to ensure proper implementation.
Although students will still enjoy their summer holidays, the incorporation of academic tasks during the break means a more focused and organized vacation than in previous years.
