There is a hike in travel prices expected this summer. At first, only airlines doubled their prices but now, trains and other modes of transport are also awaiting a hike in prices. Fortunately, the State Transport Corporation (STC) has not increased its seasonal fares yet. But the average passenger travels frequently. Due to the high demand, the travel companies have increased ticket prices which can affect daily or frequent commuters.
According to the rules of the state transport department, the travel operators (private bus operators) are allowed to charge 50 per cent more than the standard travel fare (ST). As per the rules of the ‘RTO’ administration, action can be taken against travel operators who charge more than 50 per cent.
However, in Pune, travel operators are charging higher rates despite the rules of the ‘RTO.’ Even during Diwali there is a huge increase in the ticket prices. There are a lot of passengers going to the village from the cities of Mumbai and Pune. However, there are fewer buses in the village. As a result, ticket prices have gone up. But the members have been informed and they have been requested not to charge more than the normal fare.
Private bus operators are allowed to charge up to 50 per cent more than ST fare. If the rate is more than that, legal action will be taken against the concerned private bus operator. If a customer is being charged more than what is allowed by law, then they should file a complaint with ‘RTO’.
