Sunny Deol Returns with ‘Border 2’: Fans Excited for Sequel
Sunny Deol is set to return to his famous role from JP Dutta’s 1997 hit war film, Border. On Thursday, the actor announced Border 2 on Instagram, creating a buzz among fans. The new film will be directed by Anurag Singh.
In the announcement video, Sunny’s voiceover says, “27 saal pehle ek fauji ne vada kiya tha ki vo vapas aayega. Ussi vaade ko poora karne, Hindustan ki mitti ko apna salaam kehne, aa raha hai.” (27 years ago, a soldier made a promise that he would return. To fulfill that promise, and to salute the soil of India, he is returning.)
Touted as India’s biggest war film, the video ends with the iconic song Sandese Aate Hain from the first movie. Sunny’s caption revealed more details: the film will be produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, Nidhi Dutta, and directed by Anurag Singh, known for films like Dil Bole Hadippa!, Jatt & Juliet, Punjab 1984, and Kesari.
Fans Rejoice
Designer Manish Malhotra responded with a heart-eye emoticon, while Suniel Shetty and Esha Deol shared heart and arm-flexing emojis. A fan exclaimed, “Can’t wait!” Another wrote, “I’m so happy & excited because my childhood is back.”
Sunny previously mentioned on The Ranveer Show that he intended to start Border 2 in 2015. However, it was delayed due to a prior film’s poor box office performance, causing producers to hesitate.
Sunny was last seen in Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma. This sequel to the 2001 blockbuster, where Sunny played truck driver Tara Singh alongside Ameesha Patel as Sakina, grossed over ₹450 crore at the Indian box office.
