Tata Power Users Will Pay More For Electricity As MERC Approves Tariff Hike
The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has approved a 22 percent average pricing increase in response to Tata Power’s proposal to increase power tariffs by 12 percent for the fiscal year 2024-2025. The revised tariffs will be effective on April 1.
Residential clients who use 0-100 units of energy would have to pay INR 90 instead of INR 85 in fixed charges on their monthly power bills. The MERC has also raised the electricity charge to INR 2.18 per kWh from INR 2.
Wheeling rates for residential clients have been hiked to INR 3.15 per kWh from INR 1.69 across all brackets.
Those who use 101-300 and 301-500 units of energy would have to pay INR 135 instead of INR 125 in fixed charges on their monthly electricity bills.
The energy charges for 101-300 units have been hiked to INR 5.36 per kWh from INR 5.05. The price for the 301-500 category has increased from INR 9.20 to INR 11.62 per kWh.
Households that consume 501 or more units of power would have to pay INR 160 instead of INR 155 in fixed charges on their monthly electricity bills. The MERC has also raised the electricity charge to INR 12.56 per kWh from INR 10.
A Tata Power spokeswoman stated that the MERC has established the amended price for the discom for FY 2024-25, resulting in an overall increase due to previously permitted gaps up to FY 2023-24, which will be recovered within FY 2024-25. The representative stated that this will remain within a +/- 20% range of the usual supplier cost.
