Terror Attack in Pahalgam Leaves 26 Dead, Over 20 Injured; Massive Manhunt Launched
Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir – April 22:
A brutal terror attack in the Baisaran area near Pahalgam has left at least 26 people dead and more than 20 injured, marking one of the deadliest assaults in recent times on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred around 2:30 PM on Tuesday in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, a region frequented by tourists for its scenic beauty.
According to eyewitnesses, two to three terrorists arrived at the popular meadow, checked identity cards, and then opened indiscriminate fire, unleashing more than 50 rounds. Among those killed were 25 tourists and one local resident. A brave Army officer, present at the scene with his family, reportedly played a crucial role in protecting other civilians during the chaos.

Authorities have appealed to all tourists in the region to remain indoors, follow verified news sources, and use the helpline for any assistance or information.
Government & Security Forces Respond Swiftly
The central government has moved quickly in the aftermath of the attack. Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired an emergency meeting in Delhi with senior officials from the Army, Intelligence Bureau, and other security agencies. He later departed for Srinagar to personally assess the situation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring developments and has been in constant communication with Shah.
Large-Scale Counter-Terror Operation Underway
A joint operation involving the Indian Army’s Victor Force and Special Forces, the CRPF, and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu & Kashmir Police is currently underway to track and eliminate the perpetrators. Security forces are conducting intensive searches in and around Pahalgam.
Senior police and Army officials have reached Anantnag to manage the ground situation and support rescue and recovery efforts.
