Toll Tax on National Highways in India to Increase from April 1
If you’re planning to drive on national highways in India, be prepared to pay more. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is increasing toll tax rates starting April 1. This applies to all vehicles, from motorcycles to trucks, so you may need to adjust your travel budget.
In Lucknow, the new toll rates will be finalized by midnight on March 31 and will take effect immediately. Last year, the increase was delayed until June due to the Lok Sabha elections, but this time, the hike is happening as scheduled.
For drivers on Sitapur Road, the new rates will be implemented in October as usual. NHAI collects tolls at various points, including Nawabganj on the Kanpur Highway, Ahmadpur, Raunahi, and Bara on the Ayodhya Highway, and Dakhina Shekhpur on the Rae Bareli Road. So, if you’re traveling on these routes, expect to pay more.
Officials say toll rates are revised every year as part of regular adjustments. Reports suggest the increase may be between ₹5 to ₹10. The new rates will come into effect from midnight on March 31, meaning higher toll charges for travelers moving forward.
