Mumbai, April 21: A heartbreaking accident on the Pune-Mumbai highway late Sunday night resulted in the deaths of a father and his 10-year-old daughter, while 12 others sustained injuries after a speeding truck collided with multiple vehicles near Lonavala.

The victims, identified as Nilesh Sanjay Lagad and his daughter Shravya, were residents of Pune and were returning to the city from Alibag when the tragic incident occurred around 10:15 PM.

According to Pune Rural Police, the truck, traveling from Pune to Mumbai, suffered brake failure, first crashing into an Innova. The truck then struck an Ertiga, a Tata Punch, and an autorickshaw, all heading toward Pune, before eventually slamming into roadside railings. The collision caused severe damage to Lagad’s vehicle, dragging it several meters and fatally crushing both father and daughter. They were declared dead at the scene.

Twelve other passengers in the affected vehicles were injured and were rushed to a nearby hospital with the help of local villagers.

An FIR has been filed at the Lonavala City Police Station, and the vehicles involved have been cleared from the road. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, which highlights ongoing safety concerns on the crucial Pune-Mumbai highway.
