Singer Udit Narayan recently appeared at the Supaul Family Court following legal troubles with his first wife, Ranjana Jha. She has accused him of misusing her property and is seeking financial support due to her poor health. However, Udit claims she is trying to extort money from him. Previously, they had resolved a similar issue at the Bihar Women’s Commission, but Ranjana has again raised concerns about being neglected and financial disagreements over land and maintenance. During his court appearance, Udit refused any settlement.

Allegations and Counterclaims

A Navbharat Times report states that Udit accused Ranjana of attempting to extort money from him. Meanwhile, Ranjana, through her lawyer, expressed a wish to spend her remaining years with Udit due to her health problems. She also claimed that he withheld ₹18 lakh from the sale of her land and has not supported her properly.

Ranjana further alleged that unknown people have been following her in Mumbai, making her feel unsafe. She also claimed that she and Udit were married in 1984 before he moved to Mumbai for his career and that he never told her about his second marriage or filed for divorce.

Udit’s Second Marriage and Past Controversy

Udit Narayan married Deepa Gahatraj in 1985, and they had a son in 1987. In 2006, Ranjana publicly stated that she was his first wife, which led to a controversy. Initially, Udit denied her claims but later admitted the marriage and agreed to provide financial support.

Their complicated relationship dates back to December 7, 1984, when they got married. However, after Udit became famous in 1988, he allegedly started distancing himself from her. In 2006, Ranjana sought help from the Women’s Commission, where Udit reportedly promised financial support, including a flat, but failed to fulfill his commitments.

Legal Battle Over Maintenance and Property

After further disputes, a new maintenance case was filed in the family court. In his defense, Udit alleged that Ranjana was misleading the court for financial gain. He also mentioned that a previous dispute was settled at the Bihar Women’s Commission in 2013, where he agreed to pay her ₹15,000 per month, later increasing it to ₹25,000 in 2021.

Additionally, Udit claimed that he had provided her with:
✔ A house worth ₹1 crore
Agricultural land
Jewelry worth ₹25 lakh

Despite this, Ranjana insists that he still owes her ₹18 lakh from a land deal in Nepal and continues to deny her as his wife. She also accused him of harassment when she tried to meet him in Mumbai.

Human Rights Case Filed Against Udit Narayan

The case has now taken a new turn, as human rights lawyer S.K. Jha has filed petitions with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC). He argues that, under Indian law and the Hindu Marriage Act, a person cannot remarry without legally divorcing their first spouse. Jha claims that Udit’s actions violate women’s rights and human rights.

With the involvement of the Human Rights Commission, Udit Narayan’s legal troubles could become even more complicated in the coming days.
