UPI Rules Changing from April 1 – Update Your Mobile Number to Avoid Payment Issues!
From April 1st, new rules for UPI payments will take effect in India. Apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm will follow these changes, announced by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), to make digital transactions safer.
The key update: If your mobile number linked to your bank account has been inactive for UPI payments for a long time, it will be removed. This means you’ll need to update your bank account with an active number to keep using UPI.
Why is this happening? Inactive numbers can cause banking issues and even lead to fraud. If your old number gets assigned to someone else, there’s a risk of money being sent to the wrong person.
To avoid problems, make sure your bank account is linked to a working mobile number. If your number is no longer active, check with your service provider (Jio, Airtel, Vi, or BSNL). If it’s not in your name anymore, you’ll need to reactivate it or update your bank with a new number.
Banks and UPI apps will start removing inactive numbers from their systems every week, beginning April 1st. So, update your details now to avoid any payment disruptions!
