Urban Company Launches Insta Maids Service in Mumbai

Urban Company Launches Insta Maids Service in Mumbai
Mumbai, March 17 – Urban Company has introduced Insta Maids, a new service that lets users hire domestic help within 15 minutes for an initial price of ₹49 per hour. The service, currently in its testing phase in select Mumbai areas, provides assistance with dishwashing, sweeping, mopping, and cooking.
Company’s Response to Concerns
Urban Company clarified that the ₹49 per hour rate is only a limited-time offer, and prices will be adjusted later to ensure fair wages. According to the company, service providers typically earn between ₹150-180 per hour and receive free health insurance and accident coverage.
Additionally, those working at least 132 hours a month (about 22 days at 6 hours per day) are guaranteed a minimum monthly income of ₹20,000.
Future Expansion Plans
At the moment, Insta Maids is available only in select Mumbai areas as part of a pilot project. Based on customer feedback and the service’s success, Urban Company plans to expand to more cities in the future.
Mixed Reactions on Social Media
The service has received both praise and criticism online. While many appreciate the affordability and ease of hiring, others have raised concerns about:
- The term “maid”, arguing that it sounds outdated and disrespectful.
- Worker wages and rights, with fears of potential exploitation.
- Security concerns, since customers are letting unfamiliar people into their homes.
Some users have also questioned how thorough the company’s background checks are for service providers.
This debate has sparked larger discussions about fair pay, worker protections, and respectful terminology in India’s growing gig economy.
