Uttarakhand has introduced a new cruise ship service on Lake Tehri to attract more tourists, support the local economy, and promote village tourism. Vijay Bisht, the cruise ship manager, called it a “groundbreaking step” that will open new opportunities for the region.

Tehri Dam, the world’s tallest dam, has great potential to draw visitors. The cruise ship initiative aims to benefit local communities, especially those who felt disheartened after the dam’s construction. The service, along with efforts to develop nearby villages, is expected to bring economic growth and renewed hope to the area.

To encourage winter tourism, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced a 25% discount on stays at GMVN (Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam) hotels. He also emphasized the need to strengthen tourist safety during winter and prepare for emergencies in harsh weather.

The government plans to promote lesser-known winter destinations and improve infrastructure, such as parking and facilities for visitors. Preparations are underway for the 2025 Chardham Yatra, with a focus on ensuring a smooth pilgrimage experience for devotees.

Additionally, the state is prioritizing better health services, cleanliness, and safe accommodations for tourists and pilgrims. The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has been directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply in popular tourist spots like Mussoorie, Auli, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Joshimath, and Dhanaulti.

These initiatives, combined with the new cruise ship service, show the government’s commitment to making Uttarakhand a top destination for winter tourism and spiritual journeys.
