Virat Kohli Embraces Senior Role After India’s Champions Trophy Win
After India’s Champions Trophy victory over New Zealand in Dubai on March 9, Virat Kohli took on the role of a senior mentor in the team. Unlike last year’s energetic T20 World Cup celebrations, Kohli was calm and focused on the future of Indian cricket.
Speaking with Shubman Gill, Kohli praised the young talent in the squad and expressed confidence in their ability to take Indian cricket forward once senior players like himself and Rohit Sharma retire. While he ruled out retiring anytime soon, he emphasized his commitment to guiding the next generation. “I always try to talk to these young players and share my experiences. When you leave the game, you want to leave it in a better place. These guys have already stepped up—we are in good hands,” he said.
India’s Strong Comeback After Australia Tour
India won the final by four wickets, with captain Rohit Sharma leading the charge with a fearless 76. Key contributions from Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, and KL Rahul helped India chase down New Zealand’s 252-run target. Earlier, spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets, restricting the opposition.
Reflecting on the win, Kohli spoke about India’s determination to bounce back after a tough series in Australia. “We wanted to win a big tournament, and we did it. Playing with such talented youngsters has been an amazing experience. Everyone contributed at different times, which is key to winning titles,” he said.
Although Kohli didn’t perform well in the final, he was one of India’s top players in the tournament, scoring 218 runs in five matches and finishing among the top five run-scorers.
