Vivek Oberoi’s Journey: From Bollywood Star to Education Loan Entrepreneur

Actor Vivek Oberoi, known for Bollywood hits like Company, Saathiya, and Krrish 3, has built a successful career beyond acting. He now runs an education loan business valued at ₹3,400 crore. This venture focuses on providing affordable, non-collateralized education loans and has been valued at $400 million.

At a recent event in Mumbai, Vivek shared how his startup began as a small idea and grew into a large enterprise. The business connects with over 12,000 schools, colleges, and universities and serves 4.5 million students directly. The company’s innovative approach includes offering zero-interest payment plans, which is rare in the lending industry. Vivek explained that this model works financially while adding value to students and their families.

Vivek’s shift to entrepreneurship came from challenges in his Bollywood career, where he sometimes felt overlooked. He saw business as a “Plan B,” giving him financial independence while allowing him to continue acting as a passion.

He also leads with humility and discipline. Vivek personally attends meetings rather than delegating and often flies economy class with his team on business trips. He believes this fosters team spirit and a shared sense of purpose. First-class travel, he says, is reserved for personal trips.

Reflecting on his journey, Vivek credits entrepreneurship with giving him freedom and helping him overcome setbacks. “Business gave me the freedom to live on my terms,” he shared.

Despite his success as an entrepreneur, Vivek hasn’t left acting behind. He recently appeared in Rohit Shetty’s web series Indian Police Force, alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Shilpa Shetty. Balancing his dual careers, Vivek demonstrates how passion, hard work, and innovation can go hand in hand.
