Weather Report: IMD issues heavy rainfall warning in Mumbai, neighbouring areas till weekend
The water levels in the lakes supplying water to the city has reached 5.7 million litres or 39.23 per cent as at 6 am today.

While Mumbaikars woke up to moderate showers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, which indicates heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar districts for today.
This development comes as heavy rain battered Mumbai yet again with the intensity gathering pace on Thursday night, July 18.
The weather bureau has predicted heavy showers, sounding a yellow alert throughout the weekend, July 20-21. Whereas an orange alert has been issued for Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Sindhudurg, Pune, Amravati.
As the city is witnessing significant downpour, the IMD’s Colaba and Santacruz observatory recorded 78mm and 41.2 mm rainfall respectively till 5.30 pm on Thursday, July 18.
Meanwhile, the Colaba and Santacruz observatory reported 101mm rainfall and 50.2 mm rainfall respectively in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday, July 18.
Areas in south and central Mumbai witnessed heavy showers with Worli Naka, Curry Road and Wadala recording three-digit rainfall at 123mm, 119mm, 114mm respectively.
Owing to this, the water levels in the lakes supplying water to the city has reached 5.7 million litres or 39.23 per cent as on 6 am today, July 19. The smallest lake, Tulsi, is nearing its overflow mark at 138.53m against 139.2m. This is 90% of the total capacity.

Additionally, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Mumbai has issued a red alert for Gondia, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Bhandara, Satara, Ratnagiri today.
Most parts of the North Maharashtra coast are expected to experience winds with speeds ranging from 45 kmph to 55 kmph on Friday.
On July 20 and 21, wind speeds are predicted to vary between 35 kmph and 45 kmph over the North Maharashtra coast. The IMD has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea on these dates due to the weather conditions.
