Boat Capsizes Near Gateway of India, One Dead, Rescue Efforts Ongoing
Mumbai, December 18, 2024 – A boat named ‘Neelkamal’ heading to Elephanta Island capsized near the Gateway of India, leaving one person dead and 20 rescued so far. The boat was carrying 30 to 35 passengers when it sank near Uran, Karanja.

Rescue operations are still ongoing. The Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Police, and local authorities are working together to find the missing passengers. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that five to seven people are still unaccounted for.
The Navy has deployed 11 boats and four helicopters to assist in the search. Local police, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, and nearby fishermen are also helping in the efforts.
The boat had left for Elephanta Island at around 3:15 PM. Updates are expected as the search continues.
