Mumbai’s local train commuters will now have to use a new mobile application to buy or renew their season passes. Indian Railways has stopped issuing monthly, quarterly and half-yearly local train passes through the UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) app. From now on, all new and renewed season passes will be available only on the RailOne app.

The change impacts lakhs of daily passengers on the Central and Western Railway lines, including office commuters and students who regularly depend on local trains.

Railway officials have clarified that the UTS app has not been discontinued completely. Commuters can still use UTS to book unreserved tickets for single journeys. However, the option to buy or renew season passes has been removed permanently from the app.

Passengers who already have a valid season pass issued through UTS need not worry. These passes will remain valid until their expiry date and can be shown to ticket checkers as usual. After the pass expires, commuters will have to switch to the RailOne app for a new pass.

RailOne has been launched as a single, integrated platform under the government’s “One Nation, One App” initiative. Besides issuing local train passes, the app will also offer services such as unreserved ticket booking, live train updates, platform details and other passenger-related information.

To get a new season pass, commuters must download the RailOne app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and complete a one-time registration. Payments can be made through UPI, net banking, cards or the in-app wallet. Railway authorities say the app has a faster payment system to reduce transaction failures and long queues at station counters.

Central and Western Railway officials have advised passengers to start using the RailOne app at the earliest, stating that it will help reduce crowding at ticket windows and make the pass system smoother.

In short, UTS will continue for single-journey tickets, but all new and renewed local train season passes in Mumbai must now be obtained through the RailOne app.
