Gas leakage near Adoshi Tunnel triggers emergency response, causes massive traffic disruption and safety alert on Mumbai–Pune Expressway.

A major emergency was reported on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway on Tuesday evening after a tanker carrying highly inflammable propylene gas met with an accident near the Adoshi Tunnel. Following the incident, traffic towards Mumbai was completely stopped, leading to long traffic jams on the busy route.

The tanker was travelling from Pune to Mumbai when it lost control at a sharp turn near the tunnel and overturned close to the entrance. Soon after the accident, a gas leak was detected, causing panic in the area. The incident occurred around 5:00 pm.

After confirming that the tanker was carrying propylene gas, which is extremely flammable, authorities immediately implemented safety measures. As a precaution, all Mumbai-bound vehicles were halted, while traffic towards Pune was allowed in a controlled manner.

Emergency teams from Borghat Police, IRB Highway Police, Devdoot emergency services, and Help Foundation rushed to the spot. Firefighters from Khopoli also reached the site and began work to control the gas leakage and secure the area. Later, a special expert team was called to assist in safely stopping the leak.

Officials stated that traffic will remain closed until the situation is fully under control and the area is declared safe. Extra security has been deployed around the Adoshi Tunnel to prevent any further risk.

The accident has caused heavy congestion on the expressway, inconveniencing commuters. Police have advised motorists to avoid the route and use alternative roads until traffic resumes.

Senior authorities are monitoring the situation closely. Further updates will be shared as containment operations continue, with public safety remaining the top priority.
