CSMIA wins ACI ASQ 2025 award based entirely on passenger feedback for smooth and efficient outbound experience

Mumbai, 24 February 2026: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has been recognised as the Best Airport for Departures in the Asia-Pacific region in the category handling over 40 million passengers. The honour was given at the 2025 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Customer Experience Awards by Airports Council International (ACI).

The award is based fully on passenger feedback collected throughout the year under ACI’s global ASQ programme, which independently evaluates airport services. The category looks at the full departure journey, including access to the terminal, check-in, security, boarding, cleanliness, ambience, shopping, food options and staff behaviour.

CSMIA, known as the world’s busiest single-runway airport by passenger traffic, has introduced several digital and operational improvements to manage large crowds more efficiently. These include expanded DigiYatra biometric e-gates for contactless entry and security checks, along with more self-check-in kiosks and baggage-drop systems to reduce waiting time.

The airport has also recently installed hybrid self-baggage-drop machines that can operate in both assisted and automated modes, helping manage rush hours better. For international travellers, the Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) allows faster immigration clearance, making the departure process smoother.

Along with technology upgrades, the airport has improved signage, cleanliness and passenger services. Premium lounges, a wide range of retail stores and dining options, and the newly introduced UDAN Yatri Café offering affordable food choices add to passenger comfort.

At Terminal 2, the Artbeat of New India museum corridor — a 3.2-km display featuring thousands of artefacts and installations — adds a cultural experience to the departure journey.

A CSMIA spokesperson thanked passengers for the recognition, saying the airport continues to focus on improving efficiency, comfort and service quality despite handling heavy traffic. The spokesperson added that investments in digital systems and queue management have helped enhance the travel experience and that the airport will continue adapting to passenger expectations and global standards.

The ASQ 2025 award further strengthens Mumbai airport’s position as one of the leading aviation hubs in the Asia-Pacific region and highlights its continued efforts to improve service quality and passenger experience.
