Cyclist dies on the spot after being hit by speeding car; locals demand stricter road safety measures

A tragic accident in Kalyan claimed the life of Srinivas Tandale, a well-known businessman from Thane, after a speeding car allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy hit him while he was cycling on Ring Road near Chandori.

According to police, the impact of the collision was so severe that Tandale was thrown into the air and died instantly at the scene. CCTV footage of the incident shows the car striking his bicycle from the left side of the road on a largely empty stretch.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the minor had taken his family’s car without permission. While driving at high speed, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal crash.

Police acted swiftly and seized the vehicle, taking the minor into custody around 9 AM on Wednesday. Legal action has also been initiated against his mother, Kamini Yogesh Pandey, while proceedings are underway against his father for alleged negligence.

Meanwhile, local residents have raised concerns over increasing accidents on this stretch of Ring Road. They said that after the removal of barricades, traffic movement has increased, along with incidents of overspeeding.

Rahnuma Al Shamuddin, a member of a local cycling group, highlighted the growing danger for pedestrians, joggers, and cyclists in the area.

Following the incident, residents and members of the cycling group have planned a protest on Thursday, demanding better traffic control and improved safety measures on the road.
