Mumbai Woman Flags Safety Concern After Disturbing Cab Ride Chat
Dadar incident raises fresh questions over passenger safety and driver conduct on ride-hailing apps
A woman in Mumbai’s Dadar area recently reported a troubling experience with a ride-hailing service, bringing safety concerns back into focus. What started as a normal cab booking quickly turned uncomfortable due to the driver’s inappropriate behaviour.
According to the woman, she had booked an Uber ride while returning home after shopping. The driver accepted the trip and was just about 100 metres away. Soon after, he contacted her through the app’s chat feature, asking for her exact location, which she shared.
However, the conversation reportedly took an unexpected turn. The driver allegedly asked her to “become his friend” and said he would only pick her up if she agreed, claiming he was emotionally distressed. The message left the commuter shocked and uneasy.
Sharing her reaction, she said she couldn’t believe what was happening and questioned whether such platforms were turning into something other than transport services. The message was received at around 8:58 pm.
The woman has kept screenshots of the chat, which include the driver’s name and vehicle details, as evidence.
She also raised broader concerns about passenger safety, especially for women, and urged Uber India to take strict action. She stressed the need for better monitoring of driver behaviour and communication within the app.
The incident has once again sparked debate over the effectiveness of safety measures on ride-hailing platforms. With more people depending on such services daily, ensuring accountability and professional conduct remains essential to maintain user trust.
