45-year-old dies after roof slab falls while he and his daughter were asleep; probe underway into building’s structural safety.

Mumbai, July 2: A 45-year-old man lost his life, while his 12-year-old daughter was injured after a portion of their bedroom ceiling collapsed in Navi Mumbai’s Kamothe area early Wednesday morning.

The incident happened around 6 am at Flat No. 101 in Building No. 10 of Sai Siddhi Society, Sector 10. Suresh Lokhande and his daughter, Vedika, were asleep when the concrete slab from the bedroom ceiling suddenly crashed onto them.

Hearing the loud noise, family members and neighbours rushed to help. They pulled both victims out from the debris and immediately took them to MGM Hospital.

Doctors declared Suresh Lokhande dead on arrival due to severe head injuries. His daughter Vedika suffered injuries but is in stable condition and is receiving treatment.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of ageing residential buildings, especially during the ongoing monsoon. Residents have demanded a structural audit of the society and other old buildings in the area to prevent similar accidents.

Authorities have started an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collapse. Officials will examine whether the incident was triggered by heavy rainfall, poor maintenance, or structural defects in the building.
