BIS officials conducted a raid at a jewellery shop in Mira Road that was selling gold jewellery without the required hallmark
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) officials took quick action after receiving information about a jewellery shop in Mira Road violating hallmarking rules. The officials raided M/s. Milan Jewellers and found that they were making, storing, and selling gold jewellery without the required BIS hallmark and marking.
They seized a large amount of such jewellery during the raid. Violating BIS rules can lead to imprisonment or heavy fines. Shri Sanjay Vij, Head of BIS Mumbai Branch Office II, stated that they are taking steps to file a case against the shop for the offence.
BIS encourages all consumers to use BIS CARE App (available both in Mobile Android and iOS) to find out the list of mandatory products which shall be BIS certified. They are also requested to ascertain the genuineness of ISI Mark on the product before making purchase, by visiting BIS website https://www.bis.gov.in/. BIS advises consumers to use the BIS CARE App to check for BIS-certified products and verify the authenticity of ISI marks before purchasing. If anyone notices products being sold without BIS certification or misuse of ISI marks, they can report it to the BIS office in Mumbai or via email. All reports will be kept confidential.
