Eknath Shinde Pushes for Faster Development of New Mahabaleshwar Tourist Project
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has asked the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to open an office in Mahabaleshwar to speed up work on the New Mahabaleshwar project in Satara district. He made this decision during a meeting in Dare, his hometown, while reviewing local tourism projects.
The New Mahabaleshwar project covers 214 villages, including Dare, Munavle, and areas along the Koyna River. Shinde asked the MSRDC to ensure proper planning for the development of this tourist destination. Since locals face issues traveling to MSRDC’s office in Satara, Shinde directed them to set up an office in Mahabaleshwar itself.
Local residents raised concerns about boating rules on the Koyna River, asking for simpler, region-specific rules. Shinde told officials to make changes to meet these needs. He also reviewed plans to widen roads near Pratapgad and Tapola, build a bridge over the Koyna River, and create a tourist gallery, urging officials to finish the work quickly.

Shinde supported locals setting up temporary tent stays to boost their income and suggested bamboo and tree plantations along the river to improve the environment. He also stopped poor-quality work at Pratapgad Fort, stressing the need for high-quality development at this historic site of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Plans for water tourism, night tours, and water ambulances in the Vasota and Tapola areas were also reviewed. Shinde said a new bridge connecting western Maharashtra and Konkan, expected by June, will boost tourism in Mahabaleshwar and nearby areas like Tapola and Bamnoli.
