The state has agreed to appoint 95 police sub-inspectors to run the boats with the coastal police force on a contract basis, paying INR 40,000 per month. The home department has issued an order to approve this contractual recruiting.

The order states that to operate the state police boats, 95 positions of ‘police sub-inspector second class master’ and ‘police sub-inspector first-class engine driver’ will be recruited on a contract basis. The contract would last 11 months. The Home Department issued this order on March 1.

According to the order, former Navy or Coast Guard personnel will be given first preference.

State police have a coastal police wing that patrols the water region utilising speed boats. These boats are operated by sub-inspector-level police officers. The proposal to appoint 100 sub-inspectors on a contract basis was considered and approved presently.
