Maharashtra to Set Up ₹10 Crore Media Monitoring Centre to Track News and Misinformation
Mumbai, March 6, 2025 – The Maharashtra government has announced plans to set up a media monitoring centre at a cost of ₹10 crore to track news across newspapers, TV, social media, and digital platforms. The goal is to analyze news reports, detect fake news, and understand public reactions to government policies.
As per a Government Resolution (GR) issued on Wednesday, the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR) will manage the project. The centre will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to monitor news trends and stop the spread of fake news that could cause unrest.
How the Centre Will Work
📌 Operating Hours: 8 AM to 10 PM
📌 Reports: Daily, weekly, and monthly updates on news sentiment, policy impact, and trending topics
📌 Private Consultancy: A consulting agency will help analyze news reports, sorting them by topic, region, and department
📌 Real-Time Updates: A dashboard and mobile app will provide instant alerts
📌 Learning from Others: DGIPR will study similar media monitoring models in other states before finalizing the system
This initiative is part of the government’s effort to improve media transparency, strengthen public communication, and prevent misleading information from spreading.
