Since their launch two years ago, Mumbai Metro Line 2A and Line 7 have collectively accommodated a total of 100 million passengers, marking a significant milestone in their operation. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), tasked with overseeing these metro lines, views this ridership achievement as a testament to the increasing popularity and adoption of these transit services.

The inauguration of Line 2A and Line 7 was officiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2023, signalling a major advancement in Mumbai’s urban transportation infrastructure.
The Mumbai Metro Line 2A spans 18.6 kilometres, connecting Dahisar East to DN Nagar in Andheri West via a network of 17 stations. This elevated corridor seamlessly links the Western, Central and Northern suburban regions of Mumbai, enhancing connectivity across the city.

Line 7, extending from Andheri to Dahisar, covers a 16.5-kilometre fully elevated stretch along the Western Express Highway, encompassing 13 stations. Notable stops include Gundavali, Mogra and Jogeshwari (East), facilitating smoother transit for commuters along this bustling corridor.

The integration of these two lines forms a vital 35-kilometre elevated corridor, creating a horseshoe ring route from Dahisar to Andheri. This interconnected network traverses key areas such as Link Road and Western Express Highway, bridging the gap between the eastern and western sectors of Mumbai, thereby improving overall transportation accessibility.

The two metro lines had offered a 10% discount on ticket fares for commuters on 20th May, coinciding with the polling day for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) made this announcement via an official release on 3rd May.

This initiative, aligned with the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, is anticipated to contribute to increased voter turnout during the elections by encouraging commuters to exercise their voting rights.
