“Murder Mubarak” Review: Pankaj Tripathi Shines in Netflix’s Overlong Thriller

In Netflix’s latest offering, “Murder Mubarak,” Pankaj Tripathi steals the show with his stellar performance, yet the film falls short of expectations. 

Directed by Homi Adajania, the movie features an ensemble cast including Vijay Varma, Sara Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor, and Sanjay Kapoor. Tripathi’s portrayal of ACP Bhavani Singh brings depth to the otherwise lackluster storyline.

The film introduces us to the eccentric members of a Royal Delhi Club through the eyes of Tripathi’s character. While the cast boasts exceptional talent, their characters are poorly developed, leaving much to be desired. Despite Tripathi’s captivating dialogues and delivery, the screenplay fails to match his brilliance, resulting in a mediocre outcome.

Supporting actors like Vijay Varma and Dimple Kapadia are underutilized, while Karisma Kapoor and Tisca Chopra’s performances fall short of expectations. Sanjay Kapoor delivers his best as ‘Raja ji,’ but the film fails to capitalize on potential talent like Varun Mitra.

One of the film’s major drawbacks is its excessive length, clocking in at 135 minutes. Editor Akshara Prabhakar could have exercised more restraint in trimming unnecessary scenes. Despite its flaws, “Murder Mubarak” offers moments of intrigue as ACP Bhavani Singh navigates through a web of suspects in the murder investigation.

The film effectively captures the essence of Anuja Chauhan’s novel, but some narrative elements feel disjointed. However, the plot manages to regain its footing with swift twists and turns. While “Murder Mubarak” may not fully immerse viewers in Chauhan’s universe, it offers glimpses of her signature style.

Overall, “Murder Mubarak” is worth a watch for its engaging storyline and standout performances, particularly from Pankaj Tripathi. However, viewers may find themselves wishing for a tighter narrative and better character development.
