Pune : 3 gas cylinders exploded and 28 cylinders damaged in fire incident at labour camp near Bella Casa building in Sus
Today on 15/03/2024 at 10:39 am, the fire brigade control room received information that, in Sus, a fire had broken out at workers’ huts located at Bella Casa building near Shell Petrol Pump. Fire brigade dispatched fire engines from Aundh, Pashan, Kothrud, Warje to attend the call. A total of 9 vehicles such as one water tanker and two PMRDA fire engines and water tanker and Hinjewadi MIDC fire engine were dispatched.
As per further information from PMC Fire Brigade
As soon as they reached the spot, the fire personnel saw that there was a big fire in the huts with patra sheds in the place, and immediately started spraying water on the fire from all sides to see if anyone was trapped inside, and taking special precautions to prevent the fire from spreading to other huts, brought the fire under control in about an hour.
In the said fire, it was observed that three domestic cylinders exploded and the fire broke out. Also, a total of 28 small and big cylinders for domestic use were burnt at the spot. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed in the incident.
There are a total of 50 huts of the workers and 20 huts were burnt while the other 30 huts remained undamaged. The household materials in the workers’ hut were completely burnt and there was a huge loss. The exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
In this operation, fire officers Gajanan Pathrudkar, Shivaji Memane, Kamlesh Sangale and around thirty-forty personnel under the guidance of fire chief Devendra Potphode managed to control the fire and prevented further disaster.
PMC Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode said “Our jawans reached in time and prevented the fire from spreading elsewhere. Due to the large number of cylinders, if they had exploded, there would have been a huge loss. Due to the promptness of the jawans, a major incident was averted.”
