Spicejet adds 10 aircraft to fleet ahead of summers
SpiceJet, gearing up for the busy summer schedule, has taken significant steps to enhance its fleet and resolve financial disputes. The airline finalized lease agreements for 10 aircraft, aiming to bolster capacity and ensure seamless connectivity for passengers during peak travel seasons. This move comes in the wake of the successful resolution of multiple disputes, signalling a positive turn for the low-cost carrier.
On March 7, SpiceJet announced the resolution of a ₹413 crore dispute with Echelon Ireland Madison One, resulting in substantial savings of ₹398 crore and the acquisition of two airframes. Additionally, the airline resolved a ₹93 crore dispute with Cross Ocean Partners, securing the transfer of an airframe and an engine. Furthermore, SpiceJet and Celestial Aviation settled a ₹250 crore dispute, resulting in significant savings for the airline.
Amidst these developments, SpiceJet faced the resignation of two senior executives, Chief Operating Officer Arun Kashyap, and Chief Commercial Officer Shilpa Bhatia. Their departure follows concerns raised over their spouses’ involvement in a competing airline venture. However, SpiceJet emphasized that these resignations were part of a strategic restructuring effort.
Despite these challenges, SpiceJet remains focused on growth and operational efficiency. The airline has accelerated its efforts to resolve past disputes and secure funds, demonstrating its commitment to navigating the evolving aviation landscape. Additionally, SpiceJet has recently announced new routes, including a direct route between Hyderabad and Ayodhya, to further expand its network and cater to passenger demand.
Overall, SpiceJet’s proactive measures to expand its fleet, resolve disputes, and streamline operations reflect its resilience and determination to maintain its position in the Indian aviation sector.
