TCS Updates Work-from-Office Policy: Stricter Rules, Exception Limits, and Variable Pay Adjustments

TCS has updated its work-from-office (WFO) policy, outlining new rules for exception requests. According to a recent notice to employees in India, personal emergencies can allow up to six days off per quarter, but unused days cannot be carried forward to the next quarter.

Employees can report network issues in up to five entries at once. Exception requests that are not resolved within 10 days will be automatically rejected. For late submissions, backdated entries are allowed for up to two days before the current date, and missing WFO entries for a month can be submitted until the 5th of the following month.

To address space constraints, employees can now submit up to 30 exceptions in a single entry. However, bulk uploads and backend entries for attendance exceptions are no longer permitted. The revised WFO policy has stricter attendance requirements, and TCS has linked attendance compliance to variable pay.

TCS, along with a few other Indian IT firms, has introduced a five-day in-office work policy, unlike companies that require only two or three days of office attendance per week. HR Head Milind Lakkad emphasized the importance of creating a positive and collaborative workplace environment.

After TCS announced its quarterly results, Lakkad informed employees that entry-level staff would receive full variable pay. For mid and senior-level employees, the variable pay will depend on the company’s performance. These changes are expected to influence how TCS operates in the future.
