After a fire broke out at the local body’s Pise water pumping facility on February 26, the city will have a 15% water reduction until March 5. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that while work on fixing the transformer has begun, it will result in water cutbacks in Mumbai, Thane, Bhiwandi, and other MMR cities that receive water through the ‘Mumbai 2’ and ‘Mumbai 3’ water systems. Thane Municipal Corporation has also declared a 50% water curtailment in Thane until further notice.

The lake levels have dropped below 50%. Under such a crisis time BMC is using over 15 lakh litres of water for the deep cleaning drive initiated by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Taking to X, Shiv Sena (UBT) Leader Aaditya Thackeray posted a video of the drive and slammed the government for wasting water when there was a huge shortage in the city. He posted, “Today Mumbai faces a water cut. And this is going on near Worli Sea Face, courtesy- the great nonsensical idea of “deep cleaning” by the most incapable cm of the khoke regime. @mybmc what is the cost per tanker for this nonsense? What is he exactly doing?”

On the other hand, BJP MLA Ashish Shelar blamed Aaditya Thackeray for the water crisis in the city. He posted a video on X in which he is answering questions from journalists. He blamed Aaditya Thackeray and questioned what he did when he had 30 thousand crores when he was in power and how the station caught fire.

Ashish Shelar posted on X, “Aditya Thackeray is entirely to blame for the water shortage situation in Mumbai. Mumbai Municipal Corporation has been with you for the last 25 years. When you come to power, you have taken 30 thousand crore rupees from the pockets of Mumbaikars in the last 5 years. I have a question to Aditya Thackeray that even after getting 30 thousand crores, how did the Udanchan center catch fire? How is the water not reaching the last part? Why is the water leaking? Who was awarded the tender to stop the leak? Mumbaikars are facing the consequences of not doing these things today. When deep cleaning and hygiene started at that place, he started getting pain in his stomach. Aditya Thackeray has stomach ache due to development works, beautification and cleaning works in Mumbai. So I hope they get Dhauti Yoga soon.”

BMC administration regrets the inconvenience that is causing to the citizens as the water supply is reduced due to this sudden incident. BMC humbly requests the citizens of Mumbai to use water judiciously during the period and cooperate with the municipal administration.
