According to recent data, it has come to the fore that a total of 15 people have lost their lives due to drowning incidents in Mumbai and nearby districts within a month.

Recently, in a tragic incident, two persons died from a family of five, who had gone for a picnic in Lonavala on Sunday, June 30. Five people including four children and a woman of the same family were swept away by the force of the waterfall at Bhushi dam in Lonavala in Pune district. While the search operations are on, the bodies of two have been recovered, police officials stated.

Apart from this incident, a large number of people have lost their lives near water bodies despite warnings and restrictions. 

2 die in Thane district

A 22-year-old man identified as Anup Mishra died after drowning in Kondeshwar Falls near Badlapur on Thursday, June 27. He lived at Koparkhairane in Navi Mumbai.

Meanwhile, in another incident, an 11-year-old boy Prathamesh Valke drowned in the well after he went for a swim in the Ring Road area of Kalyan West. The incident took place on June 28. He lived with his parents and sister in the Wadeghar area.

13 victims in Raigad

Since the onset of the monsoon, a total of 13 people, including seven minors, have reportedly drowned in Raigad district.

  • June 23: Two teenagers die in a lake in Alibaug’s Munwali village.
  • June 22: A 32-year-old man drowned while swimming in the river. On the same day, a 21-year-old youth of Dadli village died after his foot slipped in the Savitri river and drowned.
  • June 21: Four students aged between 17 to 26 from Mumbai were drowned in Pokharwadi Dam.
  • June 13: Youth dies after drowning in Alibaug sea.
  • June 9: A 25-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son drowned in a lake in Pirkon village, Uran.
  • May 28: Tourist dies at Kashid beach.
  • May 25: A tourist drowned in the river at Bhira village in Mangaon taluka.
