Indian-American Astronaut Sunita Williams to Make Historic Journey to Space Aboard Boeing’s Starliner
Sunita Williams leads the charge aboard Boeing’s Starliner, marking a new era in space travel.
1st June 2024
In a landmark event for space exploration, Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams is set to embark on a historic journey into space alongside astronaut Butch Wilmore aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft. This mission marks the first time astronauts will travel on a Boeing spacecraft, a significant milestone in space travel history.
Scheduled for launch today, 1st June, at 9:55 PM (IST), the Starliner will depart from Space Launch Complex-41 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The mission aims to provide NASA with an additional option for safely transporting astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS), complementing SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft.
Enthusiasts eager to witness this momentous occasion can tune into live broadcasts on NASA’s website, which will provide real-time coverage and analysis of the launch.
Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft represents a crucial advancement in NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, designed specifically to ferry astronauts to and from the ISS. Having undergone rigorous testing, the Crew Flight Test mission is poised to demonstrate Starliner’s capability to support human life and scientific research in space.
Both Wilmore and Williams, seasoned astronauts, have been in preflight quarantine at the Neil A. Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building since 28th May. Their week-long mission to the International Space Station will serve as a critical test of Starliner’s readiness for crewed flights.
