Mumbai, April 8: In a continued crackdown on smuggling, officers of Mumbai Customs, Zone-III, at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI) made significant seizures in two separate incidents involving narcotics and gold on April 6, 2025.
Passenger Nabbed with ₹9.53 Crore Worth of Hydroponic Marijuana
Acting on spot profiling, Customs officials intercepted a passenger arriving from Bangkok on IndiGo flight 6E 1052. Upon examination of the trolley bag, authorities recovered 9.532 kg of suspected hydroponic weed (marijuana), cleverly concealed within the luggage. The estimated illicit market value of the contraband is ₹9.53 crore.
The passenger has been placed under arrest under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Further investigations are underway.
Gold Smuggling Attempt Busted; ₹58.83 Lakh Worth Gold Seized
In a separate case, based on specific intelligence inputs, Customs officers intercepted two passengers who arrived from Dubai via IndiGo flight 6E 1854. During inspection, 0.789 kg of 21 KT crude gold, valued provisionally at ₹58.83 lakh, was discovered concealed in the undergarments worn by the duo.
Authorities are proceeding with appropriate legal action under Customs law. Investigations are ongoing.
