Mumbai-Pune Connecting Link Delivers Big Relief, Could Save ₹272 Crore in Fuel Every Year
The new Mumbai-Pune Connecting Link is helping vehicles move faster, cut fuel consumption and reduce emissions, bringing major benefits to commuters and transport operators.
The newly opened Mumbai-Pune Connecting Link is already showing significant benefits for commercial vehicles travelling on one of Maharashtra’s busiest routes.
According to a study by AI-powered mobility intelligence company Intangles, smoother traffic flow on the corridor could help save nearly 2.7 crore litres of fuel every year. This translates into an estimated annual fuel cost saving of around ₹272 crore.
The report also highlights environmental benefits, with the potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 65,000 metric tonnes annually.
Commercial vehicles, including buses and trucks, have reported noticeable improvements in travel efficiency. Average speeds have increased, travel times have reduced, and fuel consumption has dropped across all vehicle categories. Buses recorded the biggest fuel savings per trip, while medium commercial trucks showed the highest increase in speed.
Experts say the improved road connectivity is particularly important for the Mumbai-Pune-Bengaluru transport corridor, which handles a large volume of passenger and freight traffic every day.
The study analysed more than 2,200 trips made by 1,849 commercial vehicles before and after the Connecting Link opened. Early findings also suggest a reduction in hard braking incidents, indicating smoother and potentially safer driving conditions.
With faster travel, lower fuel usage and reduced emissions, the Mumbai-Pune Connecting Link is emerging as a major boost for Maharashtra’s transport network and economy.
