Mumbai: Shiv Sena workers vandalized a hotel in Mumbai’s Khar area on Sunday after stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra made a remark about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during his performance.

Hotel Attacked Over Viral Joke

The incident took place at Hotel Unicontinental, where Kamra’s show was recorded. His joke, which modified a song from the Bollywood movie Dil To Pagal Hai to mock Shinde, went viral on social media. This angered Shiv Sena workers, who stormed the hotel’s auditorium, ransacked the venue, and demanded an FIR against the comedian.

Political Reactions

Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske issued a warning to Kamra, stating in a video message, “You will be forced to flee India. Sena workers will pursue you across the country.”

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray criticized the attack, calling it an act of cowardice. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Mindhe’s coward gang breaks the comedy show stage because @kunalkamra88 made a song about Eknath Mindhe, which was 100% true. Only an insecure coward would react to a song.”

FIR Filed Against Kamra

Following the incident, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Murji Patel filed an FIR against Kamra at the MIDC Police Station. Patel warned that if Kamra did not apologize within two days, Shiv Sainiks would not allow him to move freely in Mumbai and might blacken his face.

Kamra, known for his political satire, uploaded a video on YouTube allegedly referring to Shinde as a “traitor.” The situation remains tense as reactions continue to pour in.
