In the middle of busy Thane city, this park has quietly opened its gates, a peaceful place where families can walk, kids can play, and trees tell stories through QR codes. Spread across 20 acres, Namo Grand Central Park is designed like the famous parks in New York and London, but built right here for the people of Maharashtra. It is now Thane city’s biggest urban park and can hold around 5,000 visitors at a time.
Inside the park, there are four themed gardens, Chinese, Japanese, Moroccan, and Mughal. Each garden has trees and plants that match the style of the country or culture it represents. In total, the park has more than 3,500 trees and will plant more to attract birds and butterflies.
Visitors can learn about these trees by scanning QR codes placed next to them. These codes give details about the tree types, both native and exotic.
There are many things to see and do inside the park. It has a lakefront area, a 750-metre walkway beside the lake, and a sky bridge that gives a good view of the surroundings. A 400-seat amphitheatre is also there for events. Visitors can also enjoy a giant chessboard, children’s play areas, and fitness tracks.
A 31,000-square-foot skating area is also being built. The park also supports activities like weightlifting, gymnastics, taekwondo, kickboxing, and judo. The park has a quiet pond as well. To make the park easy to use for everyone, there is a free electric car service for elderly people. The park is also eco-friendly, with many green areas and open spaces.
The park is open to the public every day except Monday. The timings are 6 AM to 11 AM and 4 PM to 9 PM. The entry fee is ₹20 for adults on weekdays and ₹30 on weekends or public holidays. Children below 15 years can enter for free, while senior citizens have to pay ₹15. People bringing cameras must pay ₹150, and cyclists are charged ₹20.
